Frequently Asked Questions
Should blogs have keywords?
Yes, keywords in blogs helps boost visibility if you select the ones with a higher chance of ranking. Firstly, put a keyword in the headline, the selection process is important as it should have good search volumes, low-medium competition and difficulty (chances of ever ranking at all).
You then want to naturally weave keywords throughout the content, being sure to avoid keyword stuffing. Google will penalise you for that, plus, your online visitors will soon tire of it and bounce.
If you're interested in keyword research, Semrush is a premium SEO tool that offers a free version and a 7-day trial (otherwise there's me).
What does the term 'content' refer to?
Content refers to the information you share with your audience. It includes everything from the words on your website to social media videos, captions and photos. Google Business Profile updates and email newsletters also fall under content.
Your content impacts your brand, so it is important to have a coordinated and cohesive approach to what you share online. In addition, it is not just what you say, but where you say it (what platform). Don't have enough time in the day? Let's chat.
What are some social media copywriting tips?
The internet is awash with social media copywriting tips. The key is to understand your customer/buyer persona (what makes them tick) and write relevant content. Your focus should be on their pain points (problems) and how your business resolves them.
Keep your posts concise, engaging and authentic, and if you use AI, ensure you proofread and avoid language your customers wouldn't use. AI can be a useful tool; however, the technology needs to be perfected and is often repetitive and generic. You wouldn’t read a boring book–well, social media or website copy is the same.
Why is content marketing so important?
Unlike traditional advertising, content marketing allows you to connect with your customers on a more personal level through the comments section. It also lets you share valuable information to attract and engage your target audience, such as new product lines, celebrations, industry awards, and problem-solving how-to videos.
Content marketing is often misunderstood, but it is the best way to build loyalty and credibility, ultimately driving sales. Why? Customers buy from businesses (and people) who they like and share values with. The important thing to remember with content marketing is to create valuable content with your brand's authentic voice. Write like you're talking to them.
What are the benefits of blogging?
As you can see from the infographic on this page (refer to the blog writing section above), blogs are a powerful content marketing tool. Google loves quality content, and a blog is a sure-fire way of sharing important information to educate potential customers.
Your blog could be anything from the latest industry development or product release to a How-to guide for DIY repairs. (FYI, one of my security clients' highest-ranking pages is how to fix a beeping alarm).
If your blog includes relevant keywords (words and phrases users type into Google to search online), you are more likely to improve your ranking. This is because you are seen to be answering key online queries. Blogs (long-form content) help build customer loyalty and brand awareness and creates a community around your brand. And people buy off people they like and share an interest or values with.
Why would I include case studies on my website?
Depending on your industry, a case study section offers compelling, real-life evidence about the solutions your business provides. For instance, I've written case studies for a client whose services included refurbished machinery. Here, my case study focused on how their client saved tens of thousands of dollars because they repaired and upgraded a piece of existing equipment rather than buying a new one.
If you offer professional services, like, say, an accountant - you could provide longer case studies to illustrate the robust processes and results experienced by clients who have used your business advisory services.
